AMUVI PRIMARY HEALTH CENTER (PHC) Project Committee (a.k.a. Health Committee)
(Inaugurated February 2024)
Access to quality healthcare remains a significant challenge in Amuvi, as in many parts of Nigeria. With a weak national healthcare system, limited medical facilities, and the ongoing migration of trained professionals to Western countries, residents are often left to fend for themselves. Recognizing this urgent need, Amuvi Development Group (ADG) established the Amuvi Primary Health Center (PHC) Project Committee, or simply, the Health Committee to advocate for better healthcare, improve medical infrastructure, and implement community-driven health initiatives. Through targeted programs, partnerships, and resource mobilization, the committee is committed to enhancing healthcare access, promoting preventive care, and ensuring the well-being of all Amuvi residents.

- Procuring essential medical equipment and supplies including blood pressure monitors, diabetic test strips, weighing scales, glucometers, thermometers, medical clothing, and medications through the generous contributions of Amuvi indigenes.
- Exploring ways to expand healthcare services by incorporating dental and eye care into the existing medical support system.
These achievements reflect the committee’s commitment to improving healthcare access and delivery in Amuvi
ACTIVITIES
Some of the major activities of the committee can be captured under these broad headings.
- Implement and oversee community healthcare projects that align with Amuvi Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) goals to improve medical services and infrastructure.
- Promote health education and preventive care programs to raise awareness on key health issues and encourage healthier lifestyles.
- Facilitate partnerships and resource mobilization by collaborating with healthcare professionals, organizations, and donors to enhance healthcare access and sustainability.
CHALLENGES
The Health Committee faces several critical challenges that hinder the effective delivery of healthcare services in Amuvi:
- Limited Financial Resources: Insufficient funding restricts the implementation of essential healthcare projects and the procurement of medical supplies.
- Shortage of Medications: The lack of consistent access to essential drugs makes it difficult to provide adequate treatment for common illnesses and emergencies.
- Inadequate Medical Personnel: A shortage of qualified healthcare staff, coupled with the migration of trained professionals, limits the quality and availability of care.
- Accommodation for Healthcare Workers: Even when National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) personnel or other medical staff are assigned to Amuvi, the absence of proper housing facilities makes retention and service delivery challenging.
Addressing these challenges is crucial to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring sustainable, high-quality medical care for the community.
