ELECTRICITY COMMITTEE (Inaugurated, August 2020)
Reliable electricity is the backbone of progress, yet like most things in Nigeria, it remains a persistent challenge. The Electricity Committee of the Amuvi Development Group (ADG) is committed to addressing this issue, working to improve access and find sustainable solutions for our village. Whether through repairs, advocacy, or alternative energy initiatives, our goal is simple—to ensure that Amuvi has the power it needs to grow, thrive, and build a better future.
Currently, electricity service for Amuvi Arochukwu is delivered by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). The community is served through a 33KV Distribution feeder from Itu in Cross River State. The feeder passes through other rural communities and heavy vegetation and has frequent long-term outages. An alternate 132KV transmission line and local transmission substations have been delayed for over 20 years. Electric customer homes in the Amuvi community are served through five (300 KVA each) distribution substations transformers and 415V distribution lines.

MISSION
The Electricity Committee is committed to ensuring a reliable, efficient, and sustainable power supply for the Amuvi community. Our mission is to:
- Revitalize and upgrade existing electricity infrastructure to enhance system reliability and safety.
- Empower the community through sustainable energy solutions, fostering economic growth and improved quality of life.
- Promote renewable energy initiatives that reduce dependence on conventional power sources and provide long-term benefits.
ACHIEVEMENT
Through dedicated efforts and strategic initiatives, the Electricity Committee has made significant progress in improving power access in Amuvi:
- Restored three (3) out of five (5) existing transformer installations, improving electricity distribution across the community.
- Procured and currently installing a 300KVA transformer to support new developments and expand access to stable power.
- Launched the Renewable Energy Supply Initiative with the installation of solar-powered streetlights under Light Up Amuvi – Phase 2, enhancing security and night-time visibility.
- These achievements mark critical steps toward a more resilient and sustainable energy future for Amuvi. The committee remains focused on expanding power infrastructure, integrating renewable energy, and ensuring efficient electricity distribution for all.
CHALLENGES
Like many communities in Arochukwu, Amuvi continues to struggle with maintaining a stable and reliable electricity supply. Several critical challenges hinder service recovery after power failures or faults, including:
- Damaged Transformers: Aging and faulty transformers frequently disrupt electricity distribution.
- Broken Electrical Poles & Exposed Wires: Structural damage to poles and sagging or exposed wires pose safety hazards and contribute to frequent outages.
- Burnt, Vandalized, and Outdated Equipment: Theft, vandalism, and aging infrastructure reduce system efficiency and reliability.
- Unauthorized Network Modifications: Frustrated customers attempting to fix issues on their own often make unauthorized changes, further complicating the network.
- Overgrown Vegetation Around Electrical Infrastructure: Untrimmed trees and vegetation interfere with power lines, increasing the risk of faults and outages.
- Limited Financial and Human Resources: Insufficient funding and manpower make it difficult to address infrastructure issues promptly and sustain long-term improvements.
- To overcome these challenges, the Electricity Committee is committed to securing additional resources, enhancing community awareness, and implementing proactive maintenance strategies to ensure a more stable, safe, and sustainable power supply for Amuvi.
